Sam vs Viktor
Viktor is the AI employee that proved the category. Sam is being built for the questions that come next: what will it cost, what did it do, who was it acting as, and can it work where we work.
Viktor launched publicly in February 2026 [P]. It works in Slack and Microsoft Teams, with web and desktop apps [V], does the work on its own computer in the cloud [V], and connects to 3,200+ tools through its catalog, custom MCP servers and bridges such as Zapier, Make and Pipedream [V]. It raised a $75 million Series A led by Accel in May 2026 [P]. Viktor proved this category. This page sets out where the two differ, with a source and a check date for every statement about Viktor. Sam is in development: everything in the Sam column is planned, not available today.
Side by side
| Viktor (checked 2026-10-14) | Sam (planned; not available yet) | |
|---|---|---|
| Available today | Yes, since February 2026 [P]; $100 in free credits, no card [V] | No. A private alpha with design partners comes first, then a public launch |
| Where it works | Slack and Microsoft Teams, plus web and desktop apps; it acts in Discord as a connected tool [V] | Slack, email and the web first; then Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, WhatsApp, SMS, the phone and a browser extension |
| Tools it connects to | 3,200+ through its catalog, custom MCP servers and bridges [V] | Far fewer at launch: native connectors, MCP, bridges and browser use |
| Identity | Team members share one Viktor instance and context, and integrations are shared across the team. Per-user isolation (Private Mode) and role-based access control are on its roadmap [V] | Each person connects their own accounts and Sam acts as that person within what they granted; Sam's own service identity for shared work; role-based access control |
| Price | Credits; every tier works out to $2.50 per 1,000 credits, from $50 to $50,000 a month. Its pricing page gives typical credit ranges per task type; reviewers ask for the cost of an action to be clearer before it runs [V][C][U] | A monthly price per Sam with included compute; the plan card shows the price before a task runs; budgets you set; Sam's own retries are not billed |
| Work log | Results and approvals in the thread where you asked [V]; a reviewer asks for clearer insight into when and why it acts, and for better error feedback [U] | An append-only work log of every action, read, model call and cost, with replay and export |
| Scheduled jobs | Scheduled tasks [V]. Viktor's review of 236 routines in its own workspace found 22% had produced nothing in over a month; the post notes some had been retired on purpose [V] | Each scheduled job states its expected outcome; a missing or odd outcome alerts its manager |
| Deployment | Runs on its own computer in the cloud; its public pages do not advertise self-hosting, a customer cloud account or a choice of region (checked 2026-10-14) [V] | Sam's cloud, with an EU region (date on the trust center), then your cloud account and self-hosting, with a choice of model |
| Compliance | SOC 2 Type 1; SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 in progress [V] | Dated commitments on the trust center; compliance packs for the EU, HR, healthcare and finance |
| Skills | SKILL.md folders shared in the workspace; a Skills Marketplace since April 2026 [V] | Skills as SKILL.md folders, with version history, evals and a certified tier |
Where Viktor is ahead today
Viktor is available now, and more than 2,000 organizations used it as of May 2026 [P]. Reviewers praise its integration catalog and its proactive suggestions [U][C]. Sam is not available yet, and it will connect to far fewer tools than Viktor when it launches. If your team works in Slack or Teams, wants an AI employee now and is comfortable with credit pricing, Viktor is a reasonable choice.
Where Sam is different by design
Sam is designed around per-person identity, the price before the run, the work log, the surfaces and the deployment options from its first line of code. That is the bet, and it is why Sam launches later.
